Privacy
Wikispeed keeps as little about you as it can. No ads, no analytics, no cookies of its own, and nothing is sold.
When you play
Wikispeed never asks who you are. Your browser makes up a random id and keeps it, with your results, in its own storage. For each daily you finish or give up, our server keeps:
- a scrambled (hashed) copy of that random id, so the board can show you your place
- the name you play under, which you can change any time
- your route, number of clicks and time, and when you finished. Boards are kept for good, and a past daily’s board shows the time each new #1 was set.
- a hashed copy of your internet address mixed with the date and a secret, used only to stop one network flooding the board. It can’t be turned back into your address.
If you sign in with Google
Signing in is optional. Google tells us an id for your Google account, and we keep a hashed copy of it so the same player follows you to your other devices. We don’t keep your email address, name or photo. Your email is shown only in your own browser, so you can see which account you’re signed in with.
Other services your browser talks to
- Wikipedia (the Wikimedia Foundation) sends the articles and pictures you read. Their privacy policy applies.
- Google Fonts sends the typefaces.
- Google Sign-In loads only when you open the account panel, and Google’s own policies and cookies apply to it.
- Cloudflare hosts Wikispeed and keeps short-lived technical logs of requests, which can include internet addresses.
Removing your data
Signed in: open your account and choose Delete account. That ends every sign-in and removes your name. Your past runs stay on the old boards under an anonymous name, linked to nothing. Not signed in: clear this site’s data in your browser, and nothing left on our server can be tied back to you.
